GIF size depends on three things

Duration: Longer clips = more frames = bigger file. Keep under 5 seconds for chat use.
Frame rate (FPS): 10–15 FPS is plenty for most GIFs. 24+ FPS balloons the file size.
Width: Halve the width, quarter the file size. 480px wide is ideal for chat apps.
